The International European Women's Championship became the event of the year 1999, not just for our club but also for the Czech golfing community. The heavy international participation was a pleasant surprise. The championship was attended by 93 players from 21 European countries. In addition to Western European participants from France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain, players came from Russia, Iceland, Sweden and Poland.
The tournament opened August 25th and continued through Saturday, August 28th. On Friday (August 27), a cut selected the 70 nominees for the Saturday finale. The players started to arrive on Sunday, August 22 and starting on Monday, they were able to practice and become acclimated to the nature of the course.
The winner of the tournament was Sandolo Sofia from Italy (284), followed by Icher Karine from France (286) and third place went to another Frenchwomen, Auffret Virginie (287).
As far as local players went, the best performance was turned in by Marta Balkova from the GCKV (301). She ended up in twenty-fifth position.
